Our community lost an incredible person on April 19, 2014 when Ruby Scheller passed away. During her life, she touched the lives of countless people and she lived a full and purposeful life. Ruby was born on March 4, 1929 in Lusk, Wyoming to Dan and Viola Canaday Pierson. She grew up in Torrington, WY and attended Platte Valley Academy and Union College in Lincoln, NE. She taught elementary school in Hygiene, CO where she met Samuel L. Scheller. They were married on June 10, 1949 and moved to the farm. She dearly loved the family farm on Ruby Lane in Pierce and lived there for 64 years. Ruby was the owner of Plainview Kitchen where she created cakes for thousands of friends and community members. She baked, decorated, and delivered her last cake April 9, 2014 for her daughter Sharon's birthday. Ruby was happiest when she was busy working. On the morning of her stroke, she was dressed in her greenhouse work clothes ready to plant flowers. Her love of music was reflected in her earlier years of playing in the marching band, singing in mixed quartets, and being a self taught pianist. She loved nature and listening to the early morning songs of the birds. She believed in Christian Education and made it her priority to sacrifice to assure that her daughters received a good education. Ruby was an active member and matriarch of the Elm Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church in Windsor, CO. Ruby was the true definition of a giving person in every respect. Her final gift was to the Donor Alliance. Ruby is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Scheller, Sandra Scheller, Sheryl Scheller Mary, and Shirley Soto Tommy ; second daughters Cathy, Melody, and Sandy; one brother; two sisters; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren and countless others who knew and loved her. Arrangements will be made by Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life is planned for Ruby on Thursday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greeley Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1002 21st Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruby Scheller Memorial Fund in care of the Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524. Please let us know if Ruby Scheller ever baked a cake for you or your family over the past 54 years.
