Ruby DeGroot Reynolds, 79, passed away September 12, 2012. Ruby was born on February 7, 1933 to Edward Sutter and Elgean Speilman Sutter in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She attended the Pillar of Fire School. On June 16, 1950 Ruby married Marland DeGroot in Raton New Mexico. Marland was the foreman at Turkey Track Ranch where they made their home at Squirrel Creek, Colorado. To this union of marriage the following children were born: Gene DeGroot, Dean DeGroot, Marsha DeGroot Beckwith, and Donny DeGroot. Marland became a brand inspector and the family moved to LaPorte, Colorado where they lived for the next 20 years. Upon Marland's passing, Ruby continued to live in LaPorte for approximately ten more years. After graduating from Cosmetology School, Ruby opened a salon in her home, that she ran for many years. Ruby followed her dream and moved to Reno, Nevada. After 18 years of being alone she met Ted Reynolds, a wonderful man who completed her life and who became as equally adored by the rest of the family. They married on June 24, 1995 in Reno, Nevada. Upon retirement Ted and Ruby moved to Casa Grande, Arizona, where Ruby enjoyed being closer to her sister and sister's family. They became snow birds and enjoyed the finest times of the year in both Arizona and Colorado. Ruby and Ted have spent the last year with her daughter and son-in-law in Wellington, Colorado, while Ruby was recovering from a surgery for her broken leg that had been repaired in Arizona. Over the last year Ruby's health had been a medical roller coaster ride. Sadly over the past 3 weeks her health declined significantly. Ruby passed with love surrounding her. Ruby will always be remembered by her friends and family for her love of games and baking. Her family loves to tell the stories of playing Nerts while her long time friends remember the fun nights of playing Wahoo, Pinochle, Pitch and Poker. Dice and dominoes became other games she loved to play as well. When mentioning baking and Ruby in the same sentence, everyone remembers her being a fantastic baker and raving about her cinnamon rolls and carrot cookies which now the recipes have been honorably passed down to her grandchildren. She has been known for talking her daughter and grandchildren into baking them for her when she could no longer bake them herself and hand them out to family and close friends. There are many more baked goods that each person loved, but to list them all off may take a few pages! Ruby had many joys that fulfilled her life. Ruby always had an open door policy, everyone that came into her home was welcomed with a big hug and a warm heart! Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of visiting her will tell you that she had a gift of making you feel loved, adored and cherished. She worried about everyone else before worrying about herself. As much as Ruby treasured and loved everyone in her life, the feeling was there in return. In the eyes of the ones around her, they would describe her as fantastic, amazing, sweet, loveable, lots of fun with wonderful memories, always had a way of making others smile, a contagious laugh, one of a kind, one in a million, a wonderful heart and soul, beautiful inside and out, warm and kind hearted, easy to talk to and was easy to love in return. Ruby's love of people has always gathered everyone together and around her. Her love is, what has and what will, bring us all together now.
