Ruby E. Demlow Garfield passed away on February 28, 2012 after a brief struggle with lung cancer. She was born Ruby E. Nelson to Ella and Arnold Nelson on February 23, 1925 in Irene, South Dakota. She was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1942 and she graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1943. Ruby married Donald K. Garfield, also of Fort Collins, on May 5, 1945 while he was studying at college in Missouri. They had two children, Douglas K. Garfield of Placentia, California and Deborah Garfield of Fort Collins. After Don passed in November 1981, she continued her many activities with St. John's Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, where she met and married Ernest C. Demlow on January 27, 1990. He passed away on May 8, 2010. Ernie was survived by two sons, James Demlow of Evergreen, Colorado and Thomas Demlow of Bothell Washington. In addition to her children; her step sons Ernie's sons; Ruby is survived by two sisters, Gladys Knight of Gilbert, Arizona and Anita Klein of Bentonville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Grant of Franklin, Ohio, Jeffrey Grant of Longmont, Colorado, and Andrew Garfield of Hollywood, California. She was preceded in death by husbands, Don Garfield and Ernie Demlow; brothers, Nelin and Wesley Nelson; sister, Dorothy Marquand. Ruby was a dedicated member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fort Collins for almost 70 years and was particularly active in Women's Auxiliary and Elderberries. She also had a productive career making draperies with her sister-in-law, Margarete Garfield as M & R Decorators. She loved playing cards, particularly bridge, with family and friends and hosting a mammoth July 4th picnic at her home near City Park. The family would like to thank neighbors, Ellen Martin and Vance Hermonson for the years of caring friendship and generous assistance. We also want to thank Pathways Hospice for the genuine caring of the visiting staff. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Fuenral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 East Elizabeth Street. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery.
