Skip Syler has gone to heaven to be with Jesus. His family is heartbroken to have to say goodbye. We believe he was welcomed by his parents and his younger brothers, as well as family and friends who have gone before him.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Proud Cubs fan. Proud alumni of the University of Illinois, Skip became an Electrical Engineer who claimed, "Numbers are my friend". In fact, he passed away doing his favorite thing, tracking his stocks. His career was impressive, and it took him and his family from Chicago to Cedar Rapids, IA to Dallas, TX and to Boulder, CO. He retired from Rockwell in Cedar Rapids and returned to Fort Collins, CO for their retirement.
Skip's biggest claim to fame in the eyes of his kids is his 62-year marriage to the love of his life Cathryn. They met at 14 years old and raised three kids, Steve, Shelly and Krissy. Those two are the gold standard and have given their three kids and seven grandkids the greatest example of love, adventure, and family. In recent years we saw his love and care for our mom deepen. He loved her more than any of us could imagine and she will miss him greatly.
He was serious and focused, yet funny and made us all laugh. He was generous, skilled, and always ready to help. He loved card games and family game nights. Skip and Cathryn played couples golf and were in bridge groups. Their Newcomers friends from 2000 have become friends who are like family and will miss him dearly.
Skip instilled in us his love for Jesus and kept Him in the forefront of his life. Because of this, his kids and grandkids will see him in Heaven one day where we know he is playing golf, keeping stats, and offering up math problems to anyone who might be interested.
His greatest math story problem: What do you get when one 16-year-old falls in love with one 14-year-old? Three children, seven grandchildren, and 62 years living a beautiful life with the love of your life. We have always been so proud to be his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered with the greatest of joy by his wife Cathryn, and his children Steve and Diane Syler, Shelly and Joe Harris, and Krissy and Scott Kissel. Along with his grandchildren AJ (Megan) Syler, Colton (Jaci) Syler, Lindsey (Jordan) Rossler, Amelia (Isaac) Samuels, and Reagan, Whitney and Tennison Kissel.
A Celebration of Skip's life will be held for family and friends on Friday, April 19th, 11 a.m. at Timberline Church, 2908 S. Timberline Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80525. The service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person at o
