It is with deep sadness that we announce Ronald Ramon Wertz, Sr., 92, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Golden, Colorado.
Born on December 3, 1932, in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, Ron led a remarkable life defined by dedication, intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He pursued higher education at Penn State University, earning both undergraduate and master's degrees in electrical engineering. His career took him to Bell Laboratories, where he played a crucial role in communications for the Nike missile program. Later, he continued his work with AT&T, traveling extensively to advance telecommunications technology.
Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, achieving the rank of E3 while defending the Panama Canal. His service exemplified his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Ron was an active member of several organizations that reflected his passions and values. He was involved with the American Legion and the Masons and enjoyed time spent with Good Sams Camping Club. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in fishing, RV'ing, and shuffleboard, always embracing opportunities to connect with others through shared interests. After retirement, his last years were spent enjoying the beauty of Montana that surrounded him.
A man of Christian faith, Ron believed wholeheartedly that he would one day reunite with those who had gone before him. He is preceded in death by his beloved wives, Ramona Wertz and Joan Eger, his siblings, Dorothy, Robert, and Mary, as well as his parents, Arthur and Mary Wertz.
He is survived by his children/step (and many grandchildren): Ronald R. Wertz Jr., Katherine Heineken, Karen DeWoody, Kelly Bole and Shaun Farley. His legacy lives on through them and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ron will be remembered as a dedicated family man—loyal, intelligent, fun-loving—who touched many lives with his warmth, smarts, and wisdom. He was a son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and he will be greatly missed. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
