Ronald A. Huysman, long-time postal worker in Fort Collins, died peacefully on January 6th, 2024, at the age of 85. He was known as a faithful believer in our Lord Jesus Christ, having a generous heart, keen sense of humor, and fidelity to his friends. Ron was surrounded by family and friends after a season of declining health. At the time of his homegoing he was being cared for at the Pathways Hospice inpatient facility in Fort Collins.
Ron was born at home on the family farm in Hancock County, Ohio, to Arthur and Maxine (Light) Huysman on January 17, 1938. He and his first wife, Carolyn, who survives, had two sons, Rodney of Palmer, Alaska, who survives, and David who died in 2022.
Ron's family held a 200-acre farm where Ron worked two teams of horses and a threshing machine. He attended a Methodist church close to home. He continued to work the farm until he graduated from high school. He also worked for Marathon Oil and Cooper Tire Co. in Findlay, Ohio.
Ron enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1955. His great love of military lore and heroes, such as Audie Murphy, figured prominently in his transition to active duty with the Army in 1961, serving a full tour of duty and receiving an honorable discharge in 1964 after achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Ron worked at the Remington Arms company in Findlay, after which he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He transferred with the Post Office to Fort Collins in 1969.
Through his connections at the post office, Ron was introduced to Maureen Minehart Beach, and they were married on February 14, 1986. The couple faithfully attended Fort Collins Christian Center, and subsequently Good Shepherd Chapel in Fort Collins. Ron and Maureen enjoyed almost 38 wonderful years of mutual encouragement, love, and spiritual oneness in their marriage.
Ron is survived by his wife Maureen as well as his sister Jean (Ken) Thomas of Ohio. They are also survived by many wonderful friends, coworkers, and caregivers. A celebration of life is planned for this coming spring.
