Listen to Obituary
The voyage began on May 31, 1947, when Ronald Gene Hoff was born in Greeley to John Hoff and Amelia Grosskopf of Timnath. The marvelous journey came to a peaceful conclusion on Jan. 1, 2007, in Fort Collins. Ron is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Harriett Hoff of Fort Collins; four children, Debi Collier and Rick of Woodruff, S.C., Gerald Black and Kim of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jeffry Hoff and Becky of Fort Lupton, John Hoff and Alisha of Fort Collins; two sisters, Betty Schwartz of Greeley, Donna Carlson and Sam of Holdrege, Neb; one brother, James Hoff of Fort Collins; a sister-in-law Elsie Hoff of Loveland; 10 grand children; two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer Hoff. Ron served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. He worked in the housing department at Colorado State University for 31 years and seven months up until his recent retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1781, where he worked part-time and played frill-time. When Ron was not roaming the halls of the university or working at the V.F.W., he enjoyed many things. He liked fishing, camping, and enjoyed the company of his extended family of friends. The most important aspect of Ron's life was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren as he guided them as only a grandpa can do through their own journeys and discoveries. Ron should be remembered as a tough, hard-working, and caring man with a unique sense of humor and a strong sense of family. Memorial contributions should be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1781, 603 Lesser Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524. A celebration of life with military honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4 in Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
