Romie Chavez, 93, of Fort Collins, died June 15, 2005, at Poudre Valley Hospital. Mrs. Chavez was born May 28, 1912, in Watrous, N.M., to Roman Silva and Adela Ortiz. Romie moved with her family to Fort Collins in 1924 from New Mexico. She married Pete Chavez on June 10, 1925, in Fort Collins. Romie was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Senior Citizens and Los Ancianos Unidos. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her two daughters, Celia Salazar and husband, Louis, and Della Ortivez and her husband, Louie, all of Fort Collins; two brothers, Louie and Floyd Silva, both of Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Emma Bennett, of Sweet Home, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Chavez is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother, and six children, George, Helen, Henry, Herman, Lermen and Ernest D. Chavez. A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Father Damian De LaCruz, C.R., will officiate.
