Robert Donald Smith

Major Robert Donald Smith, (U.S. Army, Ret.), age 75, of Fort Collins, CO passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Friday, August 10, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jeanette Smith, and brother, Arthur Smith, Jr. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Rita Pollan Smith, and his children Christina Smith and Christopher Smith and daughter-in-law Joni; two stepchildren, Sarah Fisher and Kevin Holmes. Bob had 9 grandchildren: Zachary Poh, Spencer Poh, Allison Poh, Megan Smith, Strider Smith, Victoria Smith, Taylor Fisher, Wilson Fisher, and King Fisher and 3 great-grandchildren: Aubrey Hall, Natalie Long, and Keaton Long, along with many treasured friends.

Mr. Smith was born on November 29, 1947 in Framingham, Massachusetts. Major Smith was a proud Vietnam War veteran in the U.S. Army. He was a strong supporter and advocate for organizations helping veterans such as the Wounded Warrior Project. He also worked for many years in the financial industry for several major corporations as a stock broker. Mr. Smith was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and enjoyed many hobbies in his beloved Poudre Canyon such as participating in a local gun club, practicing archery, hand crafting arrows, hiking, and fly fishing.

Bob was a cherished and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend. His larger-than-life personality, laughter, zeal, and affection will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August, 21, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO with military honors.
