Robert Herman Nowack, age 96, of Topeka, Kansas passed away January 26, 2019. Robert was born December 26, 1922 in Fort Morgan to Amanda (Lawson) and Herman Nowack. Robert grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado. As a young boy Robert enjoyed riding his bike around town and spending time in the mountains.
Robert enlisted in the army in 1940. He was in the 2nd battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment. They were cited for outstanding performance of duty in action during WW II while in Italy, and were given the Distinguished Unit Badge. At one point Robert was captured by the Germans in Italy, however he managed to escape. Robert was honorably discharged in September 1945.
After WW II Robert returned to Fort Collins, Colorado and married LaVerne "Peggy" Ruth Graham on March 28, 1947. They raised their five children in LaPorte, Colorado where they lived for almost 40 years. Robert worked as a plumber. Robert and Peggy attended the Seventhday-Adventist Church in Fort Collins. Robert loved spending time with his family and instilled in them a love for the mountains, camping and travel. Peggy passed away May 25, 2001. Robert is survived by his five children Gerald Nowack and his wife Joanne of Pueblo, Colorado; Kenneth Nowack and his wife Cathy of Fountain, Colorado; Regina Roth and her husband Steve of Topeka, Kansas; Lorrie Adams and her husband Dennis of Raymond, Nebraska; Michael Nowack and his wife Anna of Colbert, Washington; as well as 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Robert will be held February 1, 2019 at 10:00 am at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
