Robert Lee (Bob) Bland entered his eternal reward in the presence of our Lord and Savior on August 8, 2019, as a result of congestive heart failure. He was born in Fort Collins, Colorado, on December 26, 1927, to Frank and Mabel (Healy) Bland. Bob was a devoted member and for twenty-seven years served as an elder of the Meadowlark Church of Christ.
At the age of one, Bob's father died, and at the age of three became an orphan as a result of his mother's passing. He along with his older siblings, Lowell Bland and Zoralee (Bland) Belew both of whom predeceased him, were raised by their aunt, Acenith Healy. After graduating from Fort Collins High School in1945, Bob attended Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas.
Bob married the love of his life, Helen Shipp, on August 27, 1950, at the Bellvue Church of Christ. Together they built their paradise on ten acres in Pleasant Valley that they readily shared with family, friends, neighbors, children, and the disabled. Hospitality was their gift to all who came. Their kitchen was warm and welcoming.
Although blinded by detached retinas in 1959, Bob engineered an ingenious network of wires suspended overhead that, with his cane, he used to navigate around his farm. He was skilled at using a table saw as well as hand-held tools to build a barn, several sheds, and corrals for a variety of livestock, each of which he affectionately named.
His sixty-four-year marriage to Helen ended with her death in December 2014. Together they devoted their life to family, friends, and church, all in service to the Lord of their life, Jesus Christ. After selling his farm, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he was cared for until his passing by his son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Nancy Bland.
In addition to Dave and Nancy, he is survived by two other children -- Bob (Jr.) and Jane Bland of Denton, Texas, and Dawn and Greg Ivans of Fort Collins -- eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
