Listen to Obituary
Robert W. Kuhlman of Fort Collins Co. passed away on Veterans Day November 11, 2014. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace and with his beloved MaryLou again. Robert was born March 22, 1929 in Cambridge Ne. to Robert H. and Alpha Bailey Kuhlman. He was one of six children. On April 26, 1947 Robert married MaryLou Stewart in Norton Kansas. This union lasted 66 years. Robert's enlistment in the Navy took them to Florida in 1951. Upon his honorable discharge in 1954 they made their home in Fort Collins, CO where they spent the remainder of their lives. Robert attended country schools in Cambridge, NE He graduated in Fort Collins, CO from Fort Collins High School. He later, acquired his real estate license. Like father like son, Robert became a Mason. He completed 60 years of membership in the Masonic Fraternity. 1953-2014. He was a charter member of Fidelity Lodge #192, A.F. & A.M. Robert was a 22 year consecutive member of the American Legion. He worked for Woodward Governor for 15 years. He then started his own business "Bobs Backhoe Service". But Bob's passion was farming, so he purchased several farms. He continued farming until he was 80 years old. He raised pigs and his crops consisted of corn and wheat. He enjoyed plowing the fields upon his John Deere tractor. He always grew his own little personal patch of parsnips, if you were lucky he would share. His knack for wood working gained him the nick name "Bob the tool man Kuhlman". His wood working projects consisted of beautifully done kitchen cabinets, benches, shelves, miniature rocking chairs and tricycles. Bob was a man of few words and little emotion, but with few words he'd let you know you had crossed the line and you certainly listened. It could have been all those years of mom threatening us with "Boy's, just wait till your father gets home". He looked forward to getting the weekly addition of the Fence Post and preferred listening to the radio over watching TV. With age and the arrival of one little girl "Presley", he seemed to soften and came to life. The two would sit together in his blue recliner, tickling one another and giggling endlessly. "Bob" was a simple man and faced life straight on. "It is what it is and we can't change it, so you deal with it" "What a life" was his philosophy till the end. Dad was a man who didn't ask for help, until he exhausted all possibilities. He was a man of courage and strength. Call it Pride. It is with pride we say "Dad, back at ya!" He is survived by sons, Steve Kuhlman Wanda of Fort Collins and Craig Kuhlman Kathy of Loveland; two grandchildren, Steve Kuhlman Jr. of Norwell MA and Dawn Kuhlman Suron of Loveland; two great grandchildren, Presley Hodges and Suron Jr. of Loveland; sisters, Phyllis Garfield and Karen Jesser; sister in law, Audrey Kuhlman; brothers in law, Paul Forman and Harold Stewart Jr; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alpha Kuhlman; wife, Marylou Kuhlman; a daughter, Elisabeth Ann Kuhlman; two brothers, Ken and Jerry; and a sister, Patty Forman.
