Robert F. Helmreich joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven on March 28, 2016. Bob was a loving husband, a devoted father of four sons, and a caring grandfather and uncle.

Bob was born to Felix and Laura Helmreich in Brookings, SD on December 31, 1923. After a brief stay there and in Columbus, Ohio, he grew up in the Morgan Park area of Chicago, IL. Bob graduated in 1944 from the University of Illinois with a degree in chemistry. He served in World War II, in Army Ordnance research on space weapons and travel. He then enrolled in the University of Colorado and graduated in 1953 with a PhD in theoretical physical organic chemistry.

Bob joined The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, MI, and worked there until he retired in 1986.
Bob married Marilyn Nittler in Greeley, CO, on June 8th 1952, who he met while studying at the University of Colorado. They raised their four sons in Midland, keeping them active in newspaper delivery, Boy Scouts (all four are Eagle scouts), sports, family road trips and camping. After retirement Bob and Marilyn moved back to Colorado in 1989, settling in Fort Collins. Bob enjoyed reading, painting, and spending time at their cabin in Glen Haven, as well as traveling and being with family and friends. Bob and Marilyn traveled extensively to 40 foreign countries and all of the 50 states. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last year.

Robert Helmreich was preceded in death by his brother, Donald C. Helmreich and his parents. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Helmreich and his four sons and their families: Robert Kenneth (Mary) Helmreich and son Eric of Friendswood, TX; David (Coleen) Helmreich and their sons Matthew and Andrew of Littleton, CO; Thomas (Lynn) Helmreich and their children Julie and Ben of Arvada, CO; and Steven (Carol) Helmreich and their daughters Laura and Claire of Colorado Springs, CO.

A memorial service is planned for April 9 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Stuart Street, Ft. Collins with inurnment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be sent to your favorite charity or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
