Richard Dick Rosecrans, 64, of Red Feather Lakes, left to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Dick was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Blue Springs, Neb., to Thomas Rosecrans and Ella Frahm Rosecrans. He was raised on a farm and attended school in Neb. until his junior year and graduated from Greeley High School in 1962. He graduated top of his class from the School of Mines earning a silver diploma and honors with a Masters Degree in Geophysical Engineering. While at Mines he was involved in ROTC where he received the Department of Army Superior Cadet Ribbon. Dick joined the Army in 1966, after college, where he served in Germany, Vietnam, and state side. While serving his country he received a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam, and an Army Commendation Medal for his work during and after Hurricane Agnes. He also received the Meritorious Service Medal. Additionally, he completed the Engineer Officer Basic Course, again at the top of his class. When Dick moved to Red Feather in 1976, he owned and operated Rosecrans Garage with his father. Dick later left the garage business in 1988 to serve as manager for the Crystal Lakes Associations where he finished his career. His character is defined by his caring and giving nature. Dick often would volunteer his time to repair the car of a person in need. He was a passionate hunter and outdoorsman, but wouldn't think twice to put his interests aside to help anyone who needed him. Dick's family supported the many times he left family gatherings to assist other people of his community, as well as, strangers. He was very proud and dedicated to his community, and demonstrated this by volunteering for the Red Feather Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and Crystal Lakes Volunteer Fire Department serving as Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, and Safety Training Officer. His commitment totaled twenty-five years. Dick also served as a board member or member of Red Feather Lakes Storage and Irrigation, the Red Feather Lakes POA and the Lions Club. Dick married Joan Niebur Jan. 16, 1982, who also shared and partnered in his dedication to the community. Together they raised a blended family of five children. He loved his family very much Dick Rosecrans was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ella Rosecrans. Survivors include his wife and friend Joan Rosecrans of Red Feather Lakes; sons, John Tracie Rosecrans of Thornton, and William Rosecrans of Fort Collins; daughter, Carolynn Robert Remington of Fairview, Tenn.; step-sons, Ed Niebur of Fort Collins, and Scott Shirley Niebur of Thornton; sister, Ruth Paul Whitlow of Aurora; grandchildren, Jonas Nagel, Savannah Remington, Brandon Niebur, and Kyle Niebur. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at Morning Star Community Church in Red Feather Lakes. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Volunteer Fire Dept. in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Contributions will be split between the Crystal Lakes and Red Feather Volunteer Fire Departments. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
