Richard Othello Krug
Richard Krug, age 82, passed away on February 12, 2024 in his home in Fort Collins, Colorado after a battle with Glioblastoma.
Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 22, 1942, the only child of Roy and Lavern Krug. Richard graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and then went on to Purdue University where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Richard joined the Peace Corps and was sent to La Paz, Bolivia to teach electronics. While there he met and married his wife of 59 years, Tracy. Richard and Tracy returned to the US and began raising their family in Schenectady NY where Richard worked at GE. While there, Richard earned a master's in electrical engineering at Union College.
In 1982 the couple moved their family of 4 to Roanoke, Virginia, where they stayed for 40 wonderful years. The Roanoke Ski Club was a big part of their lives as was the lake life at Smith Mountain Lake. Richard's dreams were often about skiing – be it snow skiing or water skiing. Richard was wicked fast on the slalom ski!
After many fun years of retirement in Roanoke, Richard and Tracy moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, in the spring of 2022, to be closer to his daughter's family. This move also gave him the opportunity to help care for his daughter's dogs – Richard sure had a soft spot for dogs!
Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Tracy of Fort Collins, CO; his daughter Cindy (Dennis) Roerty of Fort Collins and their 4 children: Kevin of Denver CO, Alex (Teresa and great grandson Damien) of Berthoud CO, Krista, and Andrew both of Fort Collins CO; his son Jim (Jennifer) Krug of Richmond, VA and their children Adam and Mathew also of Richmond; and his long time dear friend from grade school, Jim Hayes (Rita) of Chicago, Il. Thanks for being a great friend for all those many years Jim!
On Tuesday, February 13th family members in Colorado gathered in remembrance of Richard. Photos of Richard from toddler through high school, college and beyond were displayed (a few are shared on this website) and he was fondly remembered. We all miss him very much. May he rest in peace.
Mass will be offered in Richard's name at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Collins CO on April 2nd at 8:00 am.
