Richard D. Herbert Dick of Fort Collins formerly of Longmont died at home Saturday, March 3, 2007, with his family by his side. Dick was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Clara and Clifford Herbert. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and attended Marshalltown Junior College. He worked as a youth director at the YMCA in Marshalltown, where he taught swimming and headed up the Boys' Day Camp. In 1956, he married Sally Brimmer of Marshalltown and they moved to Colorado in 1960. Dick lived in the Denver and Northern Colorado areas for the remainder of his life. He started in the insurance business in 1957. For the last 26 years he owned his own insurance agency in Northern Colorado. In 2001, he partnered his agency with The Leavitt Group Agencies, an affiliation in which he took great pride. He loved his work and enjoyed a reputation among his peers for honesty and integrity. He was a member of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow; past president of the Economic Development Association of Longmont; board member of the Longmont Chamber of Commerce 1984-1989; served on the Colorado State Legislative Insurance Committee; president of Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont 1976-1977; and in 1981 co-chaired the St. Vrain Valley YMCA's Fund Drive Committee with his dear friend Jimmie Kanemoto. He was a member of the board of directors of the Leavitt Group Agents Association 2003-2007. He loved to dance and was an avid golfer who found great joy as a member of Fox Acres Country Club, Red Feather Lakes, for 20 years. In his later years, he developed an enthusiasm for travel. He and Sally enjoyed trips to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, the East Coast as well as Caribbean and European cruises. He was a devoted father and passionate about his grandchildren. In July 2006, Dick celebrated 50 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Sally. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his four children, Dr. Daniel Herbert wife Laurie, Eric Herbert wife Jennene, Christine Herbert Robert Bubnich, fianc ¬, and Katie Briggs husband Randy; nine grandchildren, Christian Butler, Amelia, Finian and Nora Herbert, Alex and Noah Jordan, and Henry, Jack and Sofia Briggs, and sister Barbara Soorholtz. A memorial service is planned at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20 at First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. College Ave., in Fort Collins.
