Richard D. "Dick" Urbom passed away February 3, 2016 after a long battle with Pulmonary Disease.
Born in Oberlin, KS October 12, 1932, Dick came to Ft. Collins with his family in 1944. He attended Lincoln Jr High, Ft Collins High School, and graduated in the First Business Class at then Colorado A&M (now CSU). While at FCHS, he played football, making All Conference and playing in the State Championship in 1950.
In 1952, Dick married his High School sweetheart, Barbara J Varra. Joining the US Army in 1953, he completed his Military service in 1968 while serving in the National Guard.
The majority of his professional life was spent in the Petroleum Industry, starting as a Phillips 66 Station Owner, then on his own. He earned his pilot's license and shortly after became a Pilot Instructor at the Pilot Center in Ft Collins. He finished his working life as a bus driver for Poudre School District, which brought him joy. He enjoyed reading, flying, skiing and playing golf with his buddies.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara; his daughter Cheri Romine (Bob) and their children Travis, Brittany, Cody, and Great Grandchild Savanna Romine. Son Mike Urbom (Sandi) and their daughters Ashley and Alexis; two sisters, Marilyn Woelfle (Dale) of Tucson, AZ and Nancy Miller-Hill of Ft Collins, CO; a granddaughter, Kathryn Peterson-Mottern and family of Phoenix, AZ; niece Lee Varra-Nelson (Catherine) and other special nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 2pm. Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W Olive Street, Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dick's name to the Ft Collins Public Library.
