Richard "Dick" Besta, of Red Feather Lakes, passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2006. He was 86 years old. Dick was born on Dec. 19, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Louis and Stella Besta. After graduating from high school he attended Coe College of Cedar Rapids where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. During his college years, he met and married Kathryn Anderson, of Calmus, Iowa. They were married for 56 years until Kay passed away in 1999. Dick started his working life as an accountant. Later, he had a successful career working for several companies selling a wide variety of heavy construction equipment. His sales calls took him to each of the contiguous 48 states as well as Mexico and Canada. He deeply enjoyed his travels and his job. Dick would often take his sons along with him on his sales trips during their summer vacations and those are memories that they will always cherish. Upon retirement, Dick moved with wife Kay from Littleton to Red Feather Lakes. It was here that he spent the last thirty years of his life. Dick enjoyed the lifestyle and people of Red Feather. He was active in the Lions Club and other civic organizations and projects. Most of all, Dick enjoyed the people of Red Feather who befriended him and supported him through to his final days. Mr. Besta is survived by his sons, David Besta, of Pahrump, Nev., and Mark Besta, of Seattle, and son and daughter-in-law, John and Jean Besta, of Santa Ana, Calif. In addition, Dick was blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A service is planned at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Morning Star Church in Red Feather Lakes. The Rev. Kerry Gibson will officiate. Bohlender Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Red Feather Clinic Volunteers. Donations should be made to the Morning Star Church, P.O. Box 530, Red Feather Lakes, CO 80545. The church will be directing this new volunteer organization.
