Richard O. Barnes, 79, died July 25, 2005, at his home in Fort Collins. He was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Nunn to parents Oscar A. and Alma Barnes. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St. Military honors and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Nunn. He married Shirley Balmer on May 9, 1945, at Dover. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Air Corps. He farmed most of his life in Nunn. He worked in the aircraft industry in Cheyenne, Wyo., and owned John Deere dealerships in Torrington,Wyo., Wheatland, Wyo., and Lyman, Neb. He also owned and operated the Nunn Grain Elevator before his retirement. He was an instrument rated pilot and loved flying. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, American Legion, BPOE and the Confederate Air Force. He is survived by his ex-wife, Shirley; three sons, Bill, of Casper, Wyo., and Jim and Roger, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Robert, also of Cheyenne; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Lori. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nunn High Plains Museum or the American Legion in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
