Reed Michael Hanlon, a resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, peacefully departed from this world on June 29th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 30, 1951, to Edward and Dorothy Hanlon in Peoria, Illinois. He was raised in Peoria and remained close to several of his neighborhood buddies. He lived in many areas of the country but finally settled in Seattle, Washington, where he raised his two sons.
On July 8, 2004, Reed's life changed forever. On a motorcycle trip to Colorado he met his future wife Barbara. They had a long distance relationship for a year and a half and were finally able to unite in marriage on November 16, 2006.
Reed is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Hanlon, devoted son, Josh Hanlon, step-daughters, Sarah Ross (David), Rachel Tabone, Kelly Johnson, Shari Prather (Kenny), his five cherished grandchildren, Mason, Vincent, Colt, Weston, and Brynn, and his faithful dog, Chica. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dot, treasured son, Ian, and his brothers, Mark and Bob.
Reed was a loving and caring father. He was always positive and fought hard to remain alive as long as possible in order to be with his family.
Affectionately known as the "Random Word Generator" among his close friends and family, Reed delighted in a multitude of hobbies, including riding motorcycles, playing Frisbee golf, playing pool with his son Josh, preparing incredible meals for his loved ones, as well as the maker of the best espressos in Fort Collins. He found pure joy in navigating the scenic Rocky Mountains on his motorcycle, embarking on annual rides to rallies across the nation, where he rendezvoused with his buddies for evenings filled with camaraderie, cigars, and Scotch around the campfire. However, his most treasured moments were spent in the company of his family.
Reed was well-read and knew many different facts that he used to jokingly say "no one cared about but him". His absence will be deeply felt by his adoring family and friends, and his memory will forever be cherished. A Celebration of Life in honor of Reed will be held Saturday, August 12th from 10am - 12pm at Odell's Winery Taproom.
Reed Michael Hanlon will forever be remembered for his zest for life, his unwavering love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his strong spirit serve as a guiding light in our lives.
