Randy Royal Romer

Randy Royal Romer, 57, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2010 at Poudre Valley Hospital of complications from a recent surgery and pneumonia. He was surrounded by his loved ones and will be deeply missed. Randy was born to Rex R. and Betty L. Hoffman Romer on April 22, 1953 in Cherry Point, North Carolina. He moved to Fort Collins, Colorado with his parents in 1954. Randy attended Laurel Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High and Poudre High School. After leaving Poudre early, he sought employment with the Burlington Northern Railroad. After a life altering accident in 1985, he returned to Centennial High School to earn his G.E.D. After which he attended CSU, earning an Associate's Degree and F.R.C.C. taking welding classes. He felt his accident was a second chance at life and was truly a blessing. A blessing because it gave him the opportunity to do the things he might not have ever gotten the chance to do. Randy loved his 5 mastiff dogs. He also loved the outdoors, whether it was snow skiing, scuba diving, fishing, hunting or landscaping his property. He was the general contractor and worked tirelessly, in the building of his "Earth Ship" and Straw Bale house. He was able to see things for what they could become, rather than what they were. His creativity knew no bounds. His hobbies included woodworking, metal works, stain glass, leather and jewelry. Keeping his body in shape was important to him. Randy held a black belt in Karate. Randy was a fixture in many local places, making friends wherever he went. He kept a positive attitude no matter what life threw at him. His heart was very warm and welcoming to those he met. He was a kind and generous soul. Randy is survived by his mother, Betty; his sister, Kelly Meyer and her husband, Marvin; niece, Sarah and nephew, Wade; brother, Kevin, and his wife, Janna; nieces, Kacey and Lyndsey, and nephew, Zackery all of Fort Collins; brother, Rod, and his wife, Hollie of Cheyenne; and a very special love, Judy Tooley and son, Salim Abed and his best 4-legged friend, Willy.
Preceding Randy in death was his father, Rex and his grandparents. A "Celebration of Life" will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Timberline Church, South Auditorium, 2908 S. Timberline Road, Fort Collins.
