Rachel Corine Stegner, 95, of Fort Collins, died October 30, 2013 at a local assisted living facility with her family at her bedside. Mrs. Stegner was born December 5, 1917 on the family farm in La Porte, Colorado to Ray and Edith Hansen Young. She attended school in La Porte and graduated from Cache La Poudre High School. Following graduation, she attended one year of college at Colorado A&M majoring in Home Economics. Rachel met Ira Stegner while they were attending a Christian retreat up Poudre Canyon. They were married on September 21, 1941 at her parent's home in La Porte, CO. The couple lived in Amidon, ND where they farmed with Ira's brother Norbert on the Stegner family homestead until 1943. They then moved to Saratoga, WY to ranch with his brother Bob. The Stegner's returned to La Porte to the Stegner family dairy farm in 1949 and sold milk to Sullivan Dairy. In the spring of 1952 they moved to the present Stegner Dairy Farm location where they continued to dairy and farm until they retired. Rachel was very active in her church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. While her children were in school, she was involved in the PTA, being a room mother and in high school was president of the athletic booster club. She enjoyed attending sporting events involving her children and grandchildren. Rachel loved to garden and excelled at raising roses. Their retirement years were spent traveling and being snowbirds in Mesa, AZ. She is survived by: her sons, Kenneth Nan and Ray Sandi Stegner of Fort Collins; Michael Judy Stegner of Happy Valley, OR.; daughter, Janice Marvin Hodsden of Fort Collins; 15 grandchildren, Nettie Greg Kauffman, Lori David Houdeshell, Derek Casey Stegner, Keri Don McGregor, Greg Sharron Hodsden, Jennie Mike Lippold, Sherrie Brian Kendall, Bret Kristi Hodsden, Jeremy Denee Stegner, Michelle Stephen Kenworthy, Kevin Kristin Stegner, Brian Severine Stegner, Darren Kelli Stegner, Jason Kimberly Stegner, Tera Stegner; 46 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rachel was preceded in death by: her husband, Ira Stegner; parents, Ray and Edith Young, brother, Melville Young; and three sisters, Marie Delehoy, Alice McCoy, and Florence Kaiser. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00, noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Ave. Those who desire may view Mrs. Stegner on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
