Listen to Obituary
Polly C. Slagoski, 89, of Fort Collins, died surrounded by family on June 2, 2011 when God took our special angel home. Mrs. Slagoski was born September 6, 1921 in Elba, Alabama to Braxton and Mattie "Crockrell" Conaway. She was raised with lots of love and hard work on a cotton farm in Jay, Florida with five brothers and sisters. Polly always dreamed of marrying a sailor and getting off the farm. She met and married her sailor, Frank "Ski" J. Slagoski on February 14, 1942 in Milton, Florida. She enjoyed being a Navy wife and lived from the east coast to the west coast. She had made it to 49 of the 50 states. Mrs. Slagoski moved to Littleton, Colorado from Florida and then to Fort Collins in 1978. Polly was an active member of Immanuel Community Church where she enjoyed sending cards to fellow members. She was a member of the Seekers Club, who she counted as her best friends. Polly's hobbies included hand art, gardening, ceramics and her church work. She shared a very close knit relationship with her daughter and grandchildren. We will all miss her sparkly personality and smile. Nanny your advise will be missed. Survivors include her daughter, Gayle Jernigan of Fort Collins; two grandchildren, Sherri and Ron Jernigan; and a special niece, Marcia Sheppard, her family and multiple nieces and nephews. Preceding Polly in death are her husband, Frank "Ski" J. Slagoski; two brothers, Baron Conaway and Judge Conaway; and sisters, Gereava Tate and Sally Raley. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at Immanuel Community Church, 1725 W. Mulberry. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, at 9:00 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "A", 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to Disables American Veterans or Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
