Phyllis Irene Johnson, 88, went to be with our Lord February 23rd, 2019 at Columbine West Health & Rehab in Fort Collins, CO. She was born, March 31, 1930 in Laramie, Wyoming to Arthur and Stella (Lavergne) Munson.
Phyllis grew up in Laramie, WY graduating from Laramie High School. She met her husband, Grant Johnson, in Laramie and they were married August 31, 1949. They settled for a few years in Laramie where their four children were all born. Grant began working for Chevron Oil Company and the family moved through the years with transfers. They lived at Quealy Dome, an oil field 25 miles NW of Laramie, North Dakota for one school year, and Fort Collins, CO. In 1976 after their children were grown and married, Grant was transferred back to Quealy Dome where he and Phyllis lived until retiring in 1986. They then moved back into Laramie to be closer to their parents and other family.
Through the years Phyllis worked as a homemaker raising their four children and working different jobs. She sold Avon, did childcare, and worked as a secretary being quite proud of her 8 years working for professors in the Economics Dept. at CSU in Fort Collins, she loved increasing her vocabulary through this job. Her love of typing aided in a long list of family Names and Dates she loved to document and remember and other typing projects to organize information. Other interests included being a Cub Scout den mother, playing piano, gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting and other crafts, making countless doilies, afghans and baby gifts. She had a deep faith in the Lord and enjoyed learning about the Bible through reading, prayer, church and Studies.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Johnson; parents, Arthur and Stella Munson; and brother, James Munson.
She is survived by children Lenny Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Judi (Harvey) Schmidt of Fort Collins, CO, Sandi Robson of Springfield, IL, and Larry (Linda) Johnson of Loveland, CO; her siblings, Bettye While of Laramie, WY and Paul Munson of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Timberline Church, South Auditorium, 2908 S. Timberline Rd. followed by a reception in the East Auditorium.
