Peggy died peacefully at her home in Fort Collins on February 13, 2023, at the age of 83.
Peggy was born in Rawlins, Wyoming to Lois V. (Hall) and Gerald B. Hunt on December 17, 1939. She enjoyed an active youth – skiing Wyoming's Snowy Range Mountains in the 1950s and searching for arrowheads in the desert near her home in Rawlins, Wyoming, spurring her interest in history and archaeology. She graduated from Rawlins High School in 1958. Peggy attended Colorado State University, and later Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado where she studied archaeology.
In 1960, Peggy met and married Bill Lambdin in Durango, and in 1961 their son, William Wolfgang was born. They later moved to Sterling, Colorado where their daughter Heidi was born in 1967. The family moved to Greeley in 1973, and later to Fort Collins. During that time, Peggy, Bill, and their children spent ample time outdoors hiking, camping, and fishing in the Rocky Mountains. She instilled a love of gardening and nature that her children, and her grandchildren share to this day.
Peggy earned her real estate license and worked in banking until 1980 when Bill and Peggy founded The Senior Voice newspaper. In the early years, Peggy sold all the advertising for what would become a successful business in Northern Colorado, earning awards and recognition from the Colorado Historical Society and other groups for its efforts to preserve Colorado and Wyoming heritage. Their son Wolfgang is the current owner/publisher of The Senior Voice, carrying on that legacy.
Peggy loved art, history, and music. She and Bill started a jazz band with friends in the 70s playing in Sterling, Greeley and surrounding areas. Peg was the drummer – a novel sight in those days. She enjoyed going to museums and loved sharing history with others. Peggy was also an avid golfer, and along with her husband, vacationed in Arizona and other places to pursue the game. Peggy had an artist's heart – a free spirit with an infectious smile that lit up the room. She believed in choosing to see the bright side in any situation and finding the best in all people. We know – she was the bright side, and the best of people. In her husband's words "Above all, Peggy's beauty lives in our memory – the kindness in her heart, the sweet gentleness of her spirit. Her love filled the days with sunshine for me and for our children. She was the soft, beautiful light in our lives."
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Gerald B. and Lois V. (Hall) Hunt, her brother, Gerald B. Hunt Jr., and her sister Sharee A. (Hunt) Himmerich. Survivors include her devoted husband of 62 years, William G. Lambdin, their children Wolfgang Lambdin (wife Barbara) of Fort Collins, Heidi Carney (husband Michael) of Chillicothe, Illinois, and her sister Ginger S. (Hunt) Risvold (husband Curtis) of Colorado Springs. Grandchildren include Evan E. Lambdin (wife Angela) of Eaton, Tory W. Lambdin (wife Sara) of Berthoud, Lauren E. Carney of Chillicothe, Illinois, and great-grandchild Addison M. Lambdin, of Eaton.
In lieu of flowers, please keep Bill and his family in your thoughts and leave comments and remembrances here for them to read. A celebration of Peggy's life will be scheduled at a later date when the birds are singing and the flowers are blooming – a time she always rejoiced, as will we.
