Paula Kay Pelkey

Paula Kay "Fearnot" Pelkey, age 53 of Fort Collins, Colorado. Died on August 25, 2021 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and friends in Fort Collins, Colorado. Graveside service will be held on Saturday September 25th at Bedford, Iowa cemetery.

Paula Kay Pelkey was born October 23, 1967 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Daughter of Dale Ray Fearnot and Rena Pauline Fearnot (Schrodt). Paula grew up in Fort Collins and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 1987. Paula moved to Bedford Iowa where she lived for several years, before moving back to Fort Collins in 2016. Paula enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood, visiting with nearby neighbors, putting puzzles together and sending them to family members, waking up every morning and sending out personal Good Morning texts to family members and friends, and most importantly she loved all her cats. She also loved sending gifts to her great nieces and nephews. She never forgot a birthday, always remembering to send a card and a gift.

She was preceded in death by her husband Butch Pelkey, mother Rena Pauline Fearnot, grandparents Lewis & Evelyn Schrodt, Noble & Elsie Fearnot. Left to cherish Paula's memory is her father Dale Ray Fearnot of Kenesaw, NE, brother Donald Ray Fearnot of Fort Morgan, Co. Three nieces Whitney (Kendal)Staley of Fort Morgan, Co, Shannadon (Tony)Segura of Fort Morgan, Co, and Katelynn Fearnot Colorado Springs. As well as two great nephews Cole Ray Staley and Ezekiel Jackson Fearnot Segura and Three great nieces Cheyenne Lenora Staley, Izziebella Kay Fearnot Segura, Montana Grace Staley.

I spent many nights staying with Paula the last few weeks of her life. During this time, I was able to see many great aspects about my sister, her close friends and neighbors she had. Shaun and his mother Jeanie moved Paula back to Fort Collins around 2016 and rented her a beautiful basement
apartment. During my stay with Paula, I could see how much Shaun and Jeanie loved and cared for my sister Paula. Shortly after moving back from Iowa my sister was diagnosed with cancer. During her battle, for four and half years, she never complained and always had a positive attitude. Shaun and Jeanie were instrumental in making sure Paula made it to all of her doctor's appointments, insuring she was getting the best care. While staying with Paula I was able to meet several special neighbors and
friends who cared for her: Margarita "Moggie" was a close friend of Paula's who enjoyed walking and visiting with her (she is a retired nurse who helped care for Paula through the last weeks she was with us), Snake a retired surgeon across the street, would come over in the morning and have coffee and would help with the care for Paula when needed each day, Jen the neighbor next door, came over to visit Paula and brought flowers (I heard that she once took Paula to the hospital and stayed there while
Shaun and Jeanie were out of town, always checking in on Paula), Danielle the veterinarian across the street, came by visiting bringing her precious daughters and puppy one day to visit with Paula and brighten her day, and I even watched one day as the mail lady stopped by to visit Paula and bringing her flowers. I could see the whole neighborhood knew Paula and cared for her. I watched as Shaun and Genie cared for Paula, always making sure she was comfortable, you could tell they loved her like family
and I could tell she was truly loved and cared for by many other special people. I will have great last memories of my sister, she will be missed and forever loved. I'd also like to thank all the special people in my sister's life who helped care for her during her final time with us on Earth.
