Listen to Obituary
Paul Weathered passed away September 19, 2010 at Center Avenue Health and Rehab. Paul was born April 27, 1918 to Charles L. Weathered and Mattie H. Weathered, the oldest of seven children. He had one brother, John Weathered of Cut Bank, MT; and five sisters, Marie Weathered of Lansing, Michigan, Fern Tilson of Norwich, Kansas, Martha Christiansen of Powell, Wyoming, Barbara Bachus and Mary Simpson of Fort Collins, Colorado, of which all are still living. They grew up on a wheat and livestock farm 30 miles SW of Wichita, Kansas, where hard work six days a week and going to church on Sunday was the way of life.
After graduating from high school, he took one year of post-graduate work at the local school in business, typing, math, etc., and started farming with the help of his father. He met Mary Virginia Heath and they were married September 22, 1941. They never had any children but had many nephews and nieces whom they loved dearly and had promised to raise if necessary. Paul was drafted into the army in December of 1941 and spent thirty-two months in the Aleutian Islands with the 203rd coast guard regiment, spending two winters in Cold Bay, sleeping in a 16' square tent, and the third winter at Kiska. Upon his discharge, he and Virginia started farming at Attica, Kansas raising wheat and Hereford cattle. In 1956 they sold out and moved to Browning, Montana. They had one crop of Spring wheat, then moved to Marysville, Washington where Virginia's sister and family lived. They attended church together at the First Christian Church in Everett Washington where Paul served in the offices of Elder, Deacon, finance chairman, and most offices held by men. In 1977 they transferred to the First Baptist Church in Marysville, WA where Paul and Virginia were active on committees for many years. In Washington, Paul had an occupation that he really enjoyed as a backhoe owner and operator. He had many satisfied contractors and customers. He retired in 1980 and sold the business to his partner and employee of 20 years to Ray Rogers, who is still carrying on the business. Paul joined the AF & AM Lodge in Kansas at the age of 21, and later transferred to the Marysville Crystal AF & AM Lodge #122. He was an active member of the Grange organization, holding the master's office five different times, and all other offices that men hold in that order.
He was also active in the Gideon organization for several years. Paul moved to Colorado in 2002 when his wife, Virginia passed away. He lived at the Wexford in Loveland for 3 years and then moved to the Winslow in Fort Collins in 2005. He was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Fort Collins. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Faith Evangelical Free Church or the charity of your choice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Paul enjoyed life and helping people in need, and now is at peace with his Lord. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920 S Shields St. Pastor Forest Saylor will officiate.
