Listen to Obituary
Patricia McDermott, fondly known as "Pat," passed away at the age of 84. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Pat was a loving mother, a devoted friend, and a compassionate soul who never met a stranger.

Pat was born in Dyersville, Iowa, grew up in Galena, Illinois, and raised her family in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her Midwestern roots shaped her strong work ethic, faith, and love for community.

Pat lived a life full of adventure and warmth. She traveled across the United States, lived in Guatemala for a few years, and was a long-time resident of Fort Collins, Colorado. She thrived during her time in El Paso, Texas, where she developed a deep love for horses and her favorite donkey, Lucky. Later in life, she discovered a passion for painting, using natural wood as her chosen medium.

Pat's journey was also one of faith, strength and service. She celebrated 50 years of sobriety and spent much of that time helping others on their own paths to recovery. Her kindness, wisdom, and ability to listen made her an incredible friend and a trusted confidante.

She is survived by many cherished friends and extended family, her son, Mark Schleicher of Carr, Colorado, and her daughter and son-in-law, LuAnne & Leonard Benally of Steamboat, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter and son-in-law, Michelle & Jim Thomas of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Pat's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. To honor her memory, those who were touched by her life are encouraged to continue her tradition of making people smile, sharing a hug, listening, and being kind to everyone, no matter the circumstances. Bubbles up!!

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's name can be made to her favorite dog rescue, imalmosthome.org, where she fostered many dogs and adopted her beloved dog, Sweetie Pie.
