Olin W. Ruff "Olie" died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Fort Collins, Colorado at the age of 81. On January 8,1937 Olin was born in Windsor, Colorado to Dave and Frieda Ruff.
Olin graduated from Windsor High School in 1955. He then enrolled at Colorado A&M in Fort Collins. He pursued a degree in Vocational Agriculture. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Colorado State University in August 1959. On March 15,1959 Olin married Jackie Deines of Timnath.
Following graduation Olin and Jackie moved to Beatrice, Nebraska where Olin taught Vocational Agriculture for the Beatrice Public School System from 1959-1960. That summer they moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where Olin became Assistant Extension Agent for Garfield County until June of 1963. Olin then became employed with Holly Sugar Company as a sugar beet field agriculturist for the northern area of Hardin, Montana. During his time with Holly Sugar Co the family lived in Friona, Texas and Grand Junction, Colorado. ln 1971 Olin became employed with the USDA of Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service as County Executive Director for Crowley County in Ordway, Colorado. After a year in Ordway he transfer back to Fort Collins, Colorado as the Larimer County Executive Director for the now USDA Farm Service Agency where he stayed until his retirement in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter, Crystal K. Smith (Brian); grandson, Evan; granddaughter, Melia of Rohnert Park, California; brothers, David (Nancy) of Windsor, Colorado; Ronald (Vicki Paulsen), sister, Karen McDaniel (Larry) of Fort Collins, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Olin in death are his parents and his sister, Barbara Bauer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Timberline Church in Fort Collins. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the PVH and MCR Foundation c/o MCR Cardiac Research, 2315 E. Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80528 or sent to Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
