Odelia Stengel Peterson, 100, of Fort Collins, died August 21, 2016 peacefully at her home.
Odelia was born November 24, 1915 in Boulder, Colorado to Joseph and Mary Stengel. She was the ninth (3 brothers and 5 sisters) and the last child of the family that had roots in Alsace, Germany. Odelia attended Fairview Elementary School near Boulder and graduated from Mount St. Gertrude Academy in 1928. She attended the University of Colorado, graduating in 1936 with a BS degree in Home Economics. Following graduation, Odelia taught school in the Mead Consolidated School System. In 1939, she worked for U. S. Department of Agriculture and went to work as a Home Supervisor for the Farm Security Administration in Cheyenne Wells, Simla and La Junta, Colorado.
Odelia married Lyle Eugene Peterson on February 15, 1943 in Louisville, Colorado. They had three sons, Glen, Darrell and Barry.
Odelia was involved with the DAV Auxiliary, Hospital Axillary; Pioneer Club, and the Fort Collins Lioness Club.
Survivors include her; sons, Glen Peterson, Darrell (Judy) Peterson and Barry Peterson, all of Fort Collins; four grandchildren, Tanya (Jeff), Tammy, Andrea (Gerry) and Michael: two great-grandchildren, Kristina and Amanda and two great-great grandchildren, Nolyn and Caiden and one on the way.
Preceding Odelia in death are her husband, Lyle; three brothers and five sisters and daughter-in-law Carol.
The family would like to thank Collinwood and Halcyon Hospice for their excellent care of Odelia.
A Rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at St Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery following the reception.
