Norma Thaemert

March 28, 1941 — October 20, 2017

Listen to Obituary
Norma was born to Otto and Theresa (Schultze) David in Kansas City, Missouri, on 28 March 1941, and proceeded into eternal life on 20 October 2017 at North Shore Health & Rehab in Loveland after a long and valiant battle with interstitial lung disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Norma loved the Rocky Mountains, particularly vacationing and then working summers at the Never Summer Ranch (now part of Rocky Mountain National Park). She attended St. John's College, Winfield, Kansas, and Colorado State University where she was degreed in Occupational Therapy. She placed that career on hold to pursue one more dear to her heart—that of wife and mother. She married Ronald Thaemert on 27 December 1964. An intrepid traveler, she accompanied Ron on US Navy assignments to Maryland and Western Australia, water engineering projects in Indonesia, visits with friends and family across the US, and immensely enjoyed more leisurely travels to Europe.

Norma had considerable passion and talents in keyboard and vocal music, serving as an organist for 50 years and singing alto in church and festival choirs. She was devoted to the efforts of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

At home in Bellvue, she raised a large garden, canning and freezing produce and making pickles, jams and jellies, as well as raising turkeys. She was a skilled seamstress and accomplished with knitting and crocheting. She returned to full-time professional work in 1986, performing occupational therapy home health care with the Rehabilitation & Visiting Nurse Association until illness forced her retirement two short years ago.

Norma's stalwart faith and trust in God have inspired many. Always focused on helping people, she was also well-known for her love of her family, music, and dogs and cats. Norma is survived by husband Ron; son David, presently of Klamath Falls, Oregon; daughter, Kristina Roush of Gillette, Wyoming; and sisters, Joan Tucker of Granbury, Texas, Paula Yeary of Happy Jack, Arizona, and Susan Smidt of Phoenix, Arizona.
