Nelson Eugene Bachus passed away on August 14th, 2024, at the age of 92, from lung complications attributable to COVID.
Nelson was born in Abbyville, KS, on November 25th, 1931 to Sherry Benjamin and Nellie Mae Bachus. Nelson attended Abbyville High School, Hutchinson Junior College, and graduated from college and medical school as a proud Jayhawk from the University of Kansas. While attending medical school he met and married Barbara Weathered from Norwich, KS, in 1956. He completed his internship and residency with the US Navy and was stationed in Bremerton, WA; Great Lakes, IL; Philadelphia, PA; and Camp Lejeune, NC. During his assignment in the Navy, Nelson and Barbara had two sons, Kevin (1958) and Kent (1959). After completing his service in the Navy, the family moved to Fort Collins, CO in September 1964. Nelson established the Fort Collins Women's Clinic and later left the clinic to establish the Gynecology, Menopause, and Infertility Center; he retired from medical practice in 1997. He is preceded by his wife Barbara, after 56 years of marriage in 2012, and survived by his oldest son, Kevin (wife Vaundeen), and his youngest son, Kent (wife Phyllis, their two children, Katrina and Jacinda, and two grandchildren, Eleanor and Samuel). Among Nelson's outside interests were singing in the church choir and playing the guitar, skiing, fly fishing, and photography. Many will remember Nelson for his compassion, intelligence, and talent for medical care, and many will remember him for his kind, supportive, and gentle demeanor and quick wit. Above all, his love and support for his family were felt daily. He will be greatly missed here on earth but welcomed into heaven.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Faith Church. This will help to support the music ministry that he loved so dearly. A memorial service will be held at Faith Church, 3920 South Shields Street in Fort Collins, CO 80526 on Monday, September 16th at 11:00 AM. Pastor Charlie Sandberg will officiate the service.
