Nancy Kay Carney, 85, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed from this life on January 21, 2023.
Nancy was born on August 30, 1937, to Telitha "Bobbi" and Myron Starner in Boone, Iowa. She spent her early years competing in barrel racing and other competitive events and graduated from Boone High School in 1955 and worked as a dental assistant.
Nancy first date with her future husband, Bert Carney was on August 15, 1956, that was arranged by Bert's sister, Janese. They were engaged in December of that year, wed on April 22, 1957, and honeymooned in Colorado. They built a life together for almost 66 years and were blessed with six children. Nancy and Bert lived in Ames, Iowa, for 14 years before moving to Colorado Springs in 1971. In 1990, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado.
Nancy was passionate about restoring antique furniture and was a member of the Colorado Questers in both Colorado Springs and Ft. Collins. She was also an accomplished cook and a gracious hostess. She loved sharing food with friends, neighbors, and anyone she felt needed an extra thank you.
Nancy was a Master Gardener and spent countless happy hours both inside and outside of the house cultivating plants and flowers.
In the 1980s, Nancy started running, and it was an outlet she enjoyed well into her 60s. She retired from running on a high note when she completed a 5K race at 70.
Nancy loved traveling extensively with Bert but was happiest when she was at home surrounded by her family, her dogs, and a view of the sunsets over the foothills from her kitchen.
Nancy is survived by her husband Bert, children Mike, Bryan, Dennis, Kathleen, Shelia, and Patrick and their spouses or best friends; grandchildren Kelly, Mike, Dan, Matt, Scott, Scott Michael, Patrick, and Julia; great-grandchildren Caleb, Ella, and Emma; brother Al; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Theresa.
