M. Hassan (Hans) Mayan, 79, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away November 23, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous and challenging battle with peritoneal mesothelioma.

Hans was born April 1, 1939 in Tehran, Iran to Mohamed Akbar Mia and Sakineh Madjedi. He grew up in Tehran and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tehran University. He then came to the United States to further his education. He received his Master of Science degree, Ph.D and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

In 1972, he married Carolyn Vick, and in 1975, they welcomed their daughter Jennifer to the family.

After completing his education, Hans accepted a position as vice chancellor at the University of Rezaiyeh in Iran from 1973 through 1979. Due to the revolution in Iran, he and the family returned to the United States, where he accepted a position at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, during which time he was involved in research and teaching in the area of reproductive endocrinology. He was employed at Colorado State University for 38 years and considered his co-workers as his second family with great admiration and affection.
Hans enjoyed the great outdoors, which involved skiing, mountain climbing, hiking, camping, tennis, and spending time with family and friends. He was also a Mercedes enthusiast.

Hans is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn of 46 years; his daughter, Jennifer Mayan Kaylor, and son-in-law,
Matthew Kaylor of Wellington, Colorado, as well as four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

At Hans' request, cremation has taken place and no memorial services are planned at this time.
