Michael "Mick" Francis D'Amico passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023 in Fort Collins, Colorado surrounded by loved ones.
Mick was born December 5, 1934 in Youngstown, Ohio to Peter and Josephine D'Amico. He was a member of the infantry during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Mick worked in the steel mills of Youngstown and as the mills were starting to close, he applied to be a fireman in Washington, DC. In 1960, he married Marcia Faye Schwartz, and in 1961 they moved to DC with their first two young children. By the year 1969, Michael's family had grown to nine. Michael loved working as a fireman. He worked long hours and worked right through the years of the dangerous race riots of the 60s. He got another full-time job as a taxi cab driver to supplement his growing family. While driving cab, he would stop into the National Library of Congress and study up on his favorite president, Abraham Lincoln. He collected books, magazines, and articles throughout the years, all about Lincoln. After retiring as an officer of the Fire Fighting Division in 1980, he relocated with his family to Fort Collins, Colorado. There he owned his own furniture store and spent several years putting together his book The True History of Lincoln's Assassination, which was published in 2016. He enjoyed spending his time working in his yard, reading, playing chess, listening to the Rockies games on his old radio, and swinging with his grandchildren.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Josephine D'Amico; his brother William D'Amico and his wife Helen; and his brother Fred and his wife Geraldine. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; their seven children: Teresa (Daniel), Carolyn, Michael (Emily), Regina, Lori, Lisa, and Marcia (Jorge); his twin Robert (Helen); his brothers Peter (Millie) and Thomas (Peggy d. 2020); 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and in-laws.
A graveside service with full military honors was held on August 16, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery, Ft. Collins, Colorado.
