Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bernarda Abramovich and son James Abramovich, (Justin/Amanda Abramovich, Michael/Kaylee Abramovich, Cortney Abramovich/Jessie).
Mike was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1930 to parents, who both immigrated to the U.S. from Croatia. During the Great Depression, his family moved to Pennsylvania, where there was work in the coal mining town of McIntyre. His fondest memories during that time were of his family and other relatives gathering together to eat, share home-made wine and sing Croation songs. He sang "Ja Sam Sirota" until days before his passing.
Mike was a devoted husband and loving father. He served his country during the Korean War. A year after his discharge, he married Bernie and together they raised four children in Cleveland, Ohio. Mike was employed as a machinist at U.S. Steel for 30 years.
Life was never boring at the Abramovich household. Lots of kids going in lots of directions, but all of it grounded in faith and family.
Mike kept close ties with his siblings, Mary, Lucy and Babe. Regular visits to see family was a high priority. A wedding, funeral, Baptism or First Communion was all it took to have a big party with food, Polka music and dancing.
Mike was an avid organic gardener. He and Bernie filled their basement shelves with the canned vegetables that lasted until the following spring planting. Mike also loved to travel. Eventually, he and Bernie sold their home and spent 10 years in a fifth wheel camper, seeing the US together. They made many friends along the way. No one was a stranger to Mike. His sense of humor and natural curiosity drew people to him.
Mike was a kind and caring soul. Generous with both his time and money. Both he and Bernie were giving and loving people who were good citizens, volunteered, gave back to their community and were always a safe haven to those in need. They led by example and good works.
Mike will be missed dearly by his family who loved his humor and curious mind. May he rest in peace and spread his goodness to the universe.
Mike will be interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, Colorado 80236 at 11:00 A.M. on June 4, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cleveland, Ohio on August, 29, 2026.
