Melvin "Mel" L. Slagle, 80, of Fort Collins, died Dec. 14, 2005, at Meadowlark Assisted Living. Mr. Slagle was born July 1, 1925, in Hebron, Neb., to Frank Slagle and Louise Fangmeier Slagle. Mel served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and then married Dorothy J. Nutsch on Aug. 24, 1948. They farmed near Fairbury, Neb., and later moved to Fort Collins in 1956. He retired as a machinist at Woodward Governor after 33 years of service. Mel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving Mel are two sons, John and Jim Slagle, both of Fort Collins; one daughter, Mary Ann Slagle-Poteet of Wolfforth, Texas; two sisters, Eva King, of Arizona, and Rose Kiefer, of Fort Collins; three grandchildren, Greg, Lisa, and Sara Slagle, and 17 nieces and nephews. Preceding Mel in death are his parents; his wife of over 50 years of marriage, Dorothy; and two sisters, Bonita and Nadine.. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Stuart St. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery. Pastor Jim Rasmussen will officiate at the service. Those who desire to view Mel may do so from 9 to 5 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meadowlark Assisted Living in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.
