Mattie Ann Carbaugh was born on November 16, 1996 in Lawrence, Kansas. She passed away on June 7, 2015 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was 18. The celebration of her life will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 11, at the First United Methodist Church, 108 E. 18th St, Cheyenne, Wyoming. A Memorial Service will also be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Matthew's House, 415 Mason Ct. #1, Fort Collins.
When Mattie was 2 months old she moved with her family to Cheyenne, and in 2013 she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. She had attended Hobbs Elementary School, McCormick Junior High, and Triumph High School in Cheyenne, and Centennial High School in Fort Collins. Mattie was a straight A student and had recently been awarded a $2000 college scholarship as the winner of a Triumph Award from Realities for Children for Outstanding Achievement in the Face of Adversity.
Mattie loved reading, painting, crafting, and was a talented writer. She liked traveling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fort Collins, where she shared her musical talents as a member of the church choir. She loved animals and was a volunteer at the Animal House animal shelter in Fort Collins. Mattie cared deeply about others and planned to get a college degree in the psychology field so that she could use her life experiences to help other people.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Don Carbaugh and Joan Carbaugh. Mattie is survived by her father, Kevin Carbaugh; and her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Paul Resseguie; brothers and sisters, Jacob Carbaugh, Michelle and Derek Albee, Rachel and Duke Andrews, and Joel Carbaugh; grandparents, Clark and Susan Nichols and Pat Nichols; step grandmother, Jacqueline Resseguie; step sister, Arlea Resseguie and step brothers, Zac and Tye Resseguie; aunts and uncles, Tom Nichols and Janet Bratton, Jim and Ruth Nichols, Donna and Joe Baker, and Vicki Bradford and Ken Rolfsmeyer; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her animal friends Oskar, Tippy, Shane, Charlie and Cindy.
Donations may be made to Realities for Children, to go towards a college scholarship in Mattie's name.
