Listen to Obituary
Matthew Richard Swanson, age 31, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of June 25, 2026.

Matthew was born on July 7, 1994 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was raised in southeastern Indiana. Matt loved to play video/computer games and enjoyed reading books on historical events and non-fiction. He enjoyed studying German, watching anime, and building models. He always gave the best gifts - it was amazing how he always knew just the right thing to bring a smile to your face.

After attending college at the University of North Dakota and Emery University, Matt entered a career as a truck driver and lived out of his truck and parents’ house in Livermore, CO. He traveled across the United States delivering all sorts of goods and products. He cherished talking to people while he drove long distances in his truck and would talk about anything and everything.

Matt had a great sense of humor. He adopted a cat that he named “Mr. Fluffers” with the goal of having him as a truck companion. However, after Mr. Fluffers went around the truck cab at warp speed and walked on the walls and ceiling, he was re-located to his parents’ house where his cat-antics continue.

Matthew is survived by his parents Richard and Jane and sister Tracy. Matt is preceded in death by his uncle Brian Swanson and grandparents Jim and Ann Swanson. He is mourned by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, including beloved Becky Swanson and his cousins Layla and Lona. He has two surviving grandparents on Jane’s side, Mary Jane Slayton and Robert Sturtz.

Matthew traveled across the United States and he made friends all over both through online through gaming and driving. To remember Matthew we will be having a small memorial service for him with close family and friends on Monday, July 20th in Laramie, WY. If you are interested in attending this, please let us know and we can share additional details - you may reach out through email (tracyswansondvm@gmail.com).

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the following memorial fund, which will be used to establish a scholarship to help a high school or college student interested in studying German. Link: https://everloved.com/life-of/matthew-swanson/donate/
