Mary Spanjer was born to Julia and Simeon Lane on May 22, 1920 in Atwood, Colorado. After graduating from Atwood High School, she attended Colorado College of Education in Greeley now University of Northern Colorado, where she received her teaching degree. On June 22, 1947, Mary married Merlin Spanjer in the Sterling Presbyterian Church. She taught in Sterling until 1952 when she became a full-time mother and homemaker. In 1958, the family moved to Boulder, where they lived until re-locating to Fort Collins in 1970. With the children grown, Mary started working part-time at Poudre Valley Hospital in 1972. Retirement found her and Merlin traveling the U.S. and abroad, along with enjoying cruises and wintering in Arizona. Her loves were her family, spending time with friends, reading, cooking, and playing bridge. At Mary's request there will be a private family service at Grandview Cemetery with internment in the Four Seasons Columbarium in Fort Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years. She is survived by son, Steven Barbara of Fort Collins; daughter, Jody Spanjer Motz Greg of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Kendra and Dana Spanjer, Jaime Motz Scripps Wesley, Brian Heather Motz, and Matthew Motz; great grandchildren, McCale, Alaina, Everett Scripps and Caden, Ambria, Noah Motz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Larimer County Pathways Hospice or St.John's Lutheran Church in care of Bohlender Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
