Mary McGinley entered eternal life on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, surrounded by loved ones in Fort Collins, CO. She was 93. Born Mary Elizabeth Hoffman in 1929, in Lincoln, NE, she grew up in the small town of Steinauer, NE, as the oldest of three sisters. After graduating from high school in 1947, she moved to Omaha to attend the Commercial Extension Business School, and quickly found a job as a secretary with Beebe and Runyan Wholesale Furniture Company. She met Otto John (Bud) McGinley in 1952 on a trip home for Thanksgiving. They fell in love and married in May of 1953. They would become the proud parents of six children, and Mary worked as a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child was in grade school.
They lived at various times in Lincoln and Beatrice, NE, and Cortez, CO, where Mary helped Bud manage a motel. They eventually settled in Littleton, CO, where Mary returned to work as a secretary at Continental National Bank (later First Interstate) in 1972. She retired from there in 1990. They moved to Sun City, AZ, in 1992, when Bud retired. After Bud's death in 2001, Mary lived in Sun City another five years before moving to Fort Collins, CO, to be closer to some of her children and their families.
Mary is survived by her six children: Michael (and Carla) McGinley of Katy, TX; Patricia McGinley of Fort Collins, CO; Kelly Blackwell of Timnath, CO; Kevin (and Cindy) McGinley of Fort Collins, CO; Erin (and Matt) Potts of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Dugan McGinley (and Scott Roulier) of Metuchen, NJ; in addition to 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Kathryn (and Rich) Conradt of Lincoln, NE, and predeceased in death by her husband Bud and sister Rosanne Delisi.
Throughout her years, Mary enjoyed being a wife and mother; spending time with friends; golfing; bowling; playing Scrabble and Words with Friends; doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles; playing piano; visiting casinos; crocheting; and painting ceramics. She loved a good joke and appreciated sarcasm. She was also a longtime Denver Broncos fan and often had opinions on how the coaches and players were doing. Mary was proud of her Catholic faith and loved having a big family. She lived a full life, appreciated all of her friends, and wanted to be remembered with love and laughter.
