Mary Lou Kuhlman
September 29, 1927 - September 23, 2013 Biography Mary Lou Kuhlman, 85 of Fort Collins Colorado passed away September 23, 2013. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace. Mary Lou was born September 29, 1927 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to Harold Stewart Sr. and Phoebe Pruden Stewart. She was one of six children. Having lost her mother at a young age, she had nothing but the highest of praise for the great job her father did raising them.
On April 26th, 1947 Mary Lou married Robert Kuhlman in Norton Kansas. Mary Lou spent most of her married life in Fort Collins, but in the first years of marriage, Roberts enlistment in the Navy, took them to Florida in 1951, for a few years. Marylou attended country school in Arapahoe. She graduated in Fort Collins Colorado, from Fort Collins High School. She retired from Hewlett Packard. She later worked at Clarks and Pats Hallmark. Mary Lou was a very versatile woman. She was not only the popcorn lady for Ault Auction house, but head of security as well. She volunteered at the Lincoln Center. She help with ballet counting at election time. Mary Lou attributed many of her outstanding qualities to and as a result of her father and her upbringing. She had strong principles and was a woman of immense integrity. There was a clear line between right and wrong, and you were not to cross it. She was proud and particular. She didn't believe in complaining, never broke a promise and always made sure you knew just how much she loved you. She had a heart big enough for everyone. Her fondness for and collection of windmills, resulted from her childhood memories of the family farm and her fathers windmill. Her doll collection was the greatest. She however, wasn't very good at sharing her toys ! It was hands off, you could look, but don't touch. She was known to never raised her voice, but you knew when she meant business. You heeded her warnings, for she had eyes in the back of her head, and nothing got past her. Sometimes she'd mixed up names, we simply excused it, with the old slick, slim, snick, frank, saying, and move on. She had special names, for special people, like Tootie, pumpkin baby and baby doll. She loved to cook and bake. She always made enough to feed an army. You never went home empty handed. Her chocolate cake, chicken and biscuits, and homemade rolls, delicious and among some of her life long favorites to prepare, and ours to eat. She has an extensive recipe collection. You were luck, if she shared her secrete family receipts with you and don't bother asking, the grand dogs, they ain't telling. The tricks to making that perfect batch of Peanut brittle, divinity, fudge or that fall proof Angle food cake. Let's not forget, that hardy lemon meringue pie. Every birthday, to anywhere USA, via mail, it arrived. Grandma cared enough to send the very best. Mom loved helping in the garden and teaching the art of old school canning. Every spring she looked forward to visiting the local nurseries and picking out special flowers to plant. She laughed louder than most at a good joke, especially if she was the one telling it. She had a habit of locking her keys in the car, but she knew help was just a phone call away. She was the greatest beer buddy. She was the bell of the ball. The booty shop was always open for business, and maybe what influenced a little girls career path later in life. She loved her boys, all of them to no end. Family was the center of her universe. By chance you could be, but it was by choice, you became her friend. It seemed she knew just about everyone and her list of friends many. She looked forward to the breakfast and lunch gatherings, with the girls. She was a hard worker and didn't let any grass grow under her feet. She whistled while she worked and whistle she could. Gods choir will be enriched were sure. She will be greatly missed by many for certain. Our lives the richer because of her.
