Mary Jeanette Kavalec, beloved wife and mother, passed away at home on July 17. She was born in Spalding, Nebraska on October 21, 1918 to Mary Magdelen Bopp Kelly and Thomas Kelly. Her mother died when she was only two weeks old. She was raised by her step-grandmother. She graduated from the Spalding Academy. She married Charles Kavalec at Lowry Field Chapel in Denver, Colorado on December 5, 1944. To the union were born seven children, John David, James Donald, Charlene Katherine Swartz, Ann Patrice George, Robert Thomas, Charles Joseph III, and Stephen Michael. She lived in Spalding, Nebraska until July 27, 1963 when the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. Mary was very active at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She belonged to Rose of Lima Society for 40 years and assisted at Mary's Closet. Mary belonged to the Fort Collins China Doll Club but her favorite past time was making teddy bears. In time she made over 600 jointed bears which she shared with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, her children, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. We wish to thank the people from Halcyon Hospice that gave Mary such love and care during these trying times. A Rosary Service will be held Monday, at 7:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
