Listen to Obituary
Mary Towstik Greene of Fort Collins peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2022. Mary was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Klim and Anna Towstik on June 8th,1924. She was the oldest of 5 children, graduating from Weaver High School and attending Northwestern Bible College.
After college Mary traveled the country and landed in Colorado, where she received nurse's training and served as a nurse's aide at Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver. During her time in Denver, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Greene - at church, of course!
Mary and Kenneth were married in 1958 and moved to Fort Collins when Kenneth was named head of research at Ideal Cement Co's Laporte plant. Soon after, they happily welcomed two children into the world, Holly and Stephen. Mary was a devoted mother and very active at First Baptist Church. She sang in the church choir, was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years, and served in a variety of roles, always seeking ways to be helpful.
In later years, she cherished her time tutoring international women students in English and used this time to share her love of the Lord. Mary's love of life included traveling all over the country and internationally with Kenneth and the kids, hiking in the mountains, growing an incredible vegetable garden, tending to her roses, baking a variety of delicious treats for all who knew her and playing her favorite hymns by ear on the piano. She also loved to play scrabble and ping pong, and ride her bicycle, and did so through her seventies.
Mary is survived by her sister Lydia Gentile and niece Suzy Groff of Fernandina, Florida, brother Fred Towstik, nephew Perry Towstik and niece Jill Towstik of Denver, daughter Holly Peterson of Fort Collins (and husband Mark), son Stephen Greene of Fort Collins (and wife Bridgette), grandson James Peterson (and wife Nao), grandson Bryan Peterson (and wife Lauren), granddaughter Heidi Mosher (and husband Mac) and 4 great grandchildren: Ellie, Clay, Sage and Reese. Mary was preceded in death by her brother Walter Towstik and sister Anne Storrs. Mary lost her beloved husband Kenneth in 1988, when he passed away after a lengthy illness. Mary was an inspiration and a blessing to those who knew her, living a rich and full life of over 98 years.
