Mary O. Gomez

Mary O. Gomez, 84, of Fort Collins, was called from this world Monday, March 1, 2010. She was born to Benito and Maria Garcia, April 27, 1925, in Hooper, Colorado. She married Lloyd Gomez October 31, 1954 in Pueblo, Colorado. Together they settled in Fort Collins in 1955. Mary was the loving wife to Lloyd for fifty-four years and the beautiful mother of their six children. Mary worked for Saint Joseph Catholic School for 16 years before she retired. She continued to lend her time to organize volunteers for church functions as well as to find volunteers for the Catholic Charities Northern. Mary spent decades helping others in their time of need doing for them the things they could not do for themselves. She aided many of these persons for several years each. She had a passion for cooking and an even greater passion for her family whom converged at her house each holiday for those wonderful large meals. She was a good cook and everyone looked forward to all their favorites at Grandma's house. The whole family has a fabulous sense of humor and Mary continued to tell jokes and poke fun at Lloyd until the end. Mary is survived by her six children: Lawrence Gomez, of Irving Texas; Linda Hernandez, of Longmont; Patricia Bell, of Fort Collins; Chris Gomez, of Aurora; Julie Garcia, of Fort Collins; and Benita Cederquist, of Fort Collins. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ceremony will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, March 5, 2010 beginning with the Rosary at l 0:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., and, finally, Interment at Grandview Cemetery. There will be a reception at Knights of Columbus Hall following Interment. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Catholic Charities Northern, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
