Mary Bernadette Fouhy Tholen December 30, 1922 – April 30, 2014 Bernadette was born in Boston, MA to John and Edna Pearl Minter Fouhy. She had one brother, John Bernard Fouhy. She was raised in Thurston, Nebraska and educated at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska where she received her teaching credentials. During World War II, she worked for Douglas Aircraft, a major military defense contractor, as one of many "Rosie the Riveters". She taught school in Craig, Colorado, and met and married Harold Joseph Tholen in Leadville, Colorado in October 1949. They later moved to Telluride, Colorado where she was a member of the Daughters of Rebekah and several community organizations, served as a 4-H leader and was active in the Sewing Club. She also wrote a column, "Along the San Miguel" for the Telluride Times. After the death of her husband in 1975, she made her home in Fort Collins, CO. She celebrated her 91st birthday in December surrounded by loved ones. Left to cherish her memory are three children; Sarah Marie Tholen, Littleton, CO, Harold James Tholen, Houston, TX and Bernard Joseph Tholen, Fort Collins, CO. A celebration of Bernadette's life will be held in her beloved Telluride, CO at a future date.
