He grew up on a farm, attending Ashton School through the eighth grade. After graduating from Colorado High School in 1947, he attended Bob Jones University, Rockmont College, Adams State College, Bethel Seminary and Denver Seminary, where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees. Marvin married Lolabelle Ayers on June 20, 1952, in Iliff. They lived in several towns as Marvin pastored in churches in Vona and Ordway. He pastored a church in Ault while living in Fort Collins. While pastoring, Marvin also taught fifth grade at Tavelli Elementary School for 21 years and middle school at Heritage Christian School for eight years. Following his retirement, he was an interim pastor at Livermore Community Church, Morning Star at Red Feather Lakes and several other churches. He loved gospel music and sang in quartets and choirs, including a traveling quartet for two summers during college. He liked sports and enjoyed playing basketball in college. One of his favorite sports was golf, particularly when he got to play on the "cheap" courses in Iowa. He also enjoyed driving their motor home around the country and working on their cabin up in the mountains, which he built along with the help of many family members. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed following his children and grandchildren's activities. Marvin loved people and served anyone who needed his love and help. People often said of him, "Marvin lived his faith." This is the faith that Jesus spoke of in John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Survivors include his wife, Lolabelle, of Fort Collins; four daughters, Nancy Sandberg, of Los Angeles, Laura Bustos and husband, Jay, of Wellington, Wendy Sandberg and husband, Marc Moore, of Albuquerque, N.M., Amy Stuemky and husband, Mark, of Westminster; three very special grandchildren, Jason, Kelsey and Katelyn Bustos of Wellington; and two sisters, Donna Dean and husband, John, of Aurora, and Charlene Underhill and husband, Robert, of Fort Collins.
