How do you encapsulate almost 96 years on this planet? Not sure, but here goes . . .
Marion Alma Post Osterhout was born in 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA to Otto Wilhelm and Alma Marget Post. The last of 5 children made up of Phyllis, Bob, Bill, Paul and herself.
She learned at a young age to take advantage of all opportunities available - becoming a major reader through use of the library, absorbing theater through a local university's free passes. Going to college on an all-paid scholarship as the state needed teachers.
Born during the Depression and living through World War II, these events both defined and inspired her. She always kept an eye out for a bargain, clipped coupons, had a "Make do, or do without" attitude, was very creative in finding alternatives which worked!
She married Bob Osterhout in 1953 and that union created 5 children, Leslie, Gary, Lois, Lee and Gregg, which then added 5 spouses, Jim, Colleen, Bob, Les, and Jenny and 6 grandchildren, Dieter, Xenia, Sasha, Leana, Lucas and Duncan to the family. As a member of a Depression family and the wife of a service man, she resided at 16 different addresses, lived in six different states and one foreign country.
Besides reading and theater, she loved crossword puzzles, fabulous storyteller, never met a musical she did not love, sang with a number of choirs, joined many reading groups, played in many bridge groups, took classes and was a life-time learner. She also loved to take the opposing side of a discussion to elicit thought. She also collected all manner of clothing and accessories - making an act of putting her best foot forward.
Marion was her own person and meant many things to many people. Come help us celebrate her life on Augst 1, 2026 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Drake Center, 802 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, with a champagne toast at 2:00pm.
