Marian Andelea Steinhoff

April 14, 1921 — April 24, 2025

Listen to Obituary
Marian Steinhoff went home to her Father in heaven and to rejoin her beloved husband Harold W. Steinhoff on April 24, 2025, having just celebrated her 104th birthday. She passed peacefully, in her sleep, after a full life. From the Farm, to the Dust Bowl, thru the Depression, to WWII munitions work, her faith in the Lord never wavered.

Marian was born in the family farm-house in Flaxton, North Dakota on April 14, 1921, to Warren Samuel Town and Rachel Edith Young. She joined 3 sisters (Margery, Catherine, and Emily) and 2 brothers (Stanley and Gail). School started in Flaxton, but she graduated High School in the Louisville area of Colorado, where her sister and brother in-law had a medical practice.

She attended college at Colorado State University, where she fell in love with her future husband, Harold Steinhoff. They dated and danced to "big-band" music, but WWII interrupted their budding romance. Our Dad entered the Army Air Corps and was apparently was so smitten with Marian (and in his befuddled state), he lost her phone number as he headed off to the war….

A favorite story of our family is about how Harold's mother and father weren't about to let this romance wither, so they just "happened" to bump into Marian at a small diner in Denver. Apparently, they got her phone number and passed it on to Harold, "who knew what to do with it"!

Harold made up for it while on leave in 1944, before heading to England. They were married in Seattle, by our grandad, Larry H. Steinhoff, on January 19, 1944. After a brief honeymoon, Harold returned to the war effort. After 3 long years of separation, he came home in 1947. And finally, they got around to having two sons, Richard T. and David L. and made their home in Fort Collins, Colorado.

In her latter years, she and Harold moved to Durango, where they built their house and enjoyed a great view of the La Plata Mountains. Their last home was at Good Samaritan's Water Valley, in Windsor, Colorado, where they lived out their life.

Harold preceded her in-death in 2019, after reaching 100 and celebrating their 75th anniversary.
