Maria Makowskyj

Maria Makowskyj Maria was born on March 8, 1924, in Hlyniany, Ukraine. She grew up in the Ukraine until 1942. When the Germans invaded the Ukraine, she and many other young people were put on trains and taken to Germany to work as labor on farms. After Germany was liberated she took nurses training and worked in hospital. She married Harasym Makowskyj in 1946 and together with two children in tow immigrated to the US in 1951. She lived in Pennsylvania until January 2011, when she moved to Fort Collins, CO to live with her daughter after the death of Harasym in 2010. Maria died at home on November 29, 2013. Maria is survived by her children, Mary Miroslawa Saraullo of Fort Collins, Oksana Fallon, and Walter Makowskyj both of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jenn and Lisa Saraullo, Kate Doney, Azure Santangelo and Ian Fallon; great grandchildren, Drake and Carson Doney, Taylor Santangelo and Alex Fallon. Maria enjoyed visiting with her family, attending mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and watching the mass on EWTN, knitting, crocheting, and walking around the neighborhood. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 5450 South Lemay Avenue. Burial of cremains will take place at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Pennsylvania at a later date.
